Introduction to CSTR DNS Services

When dealing with the number of documents in the CSTR project, it is important that any operations performed over a large set of documents can run in reasonable time. We have found that two of these operations are to check if a particular TR is stored on a server anywhere (and where), and to provide a list of formats in which a particular TR is available. For example, when displaying a list of TRs after a catalog search, we check to see if each TR is available on-line. If so, we add a link to go to the CSTR Services page for that TR. This takes a prohibitively long time unless we use DNS to "cache" the server lookups.
